The way you waited long

      Past what was reasonable–

      The quarter turn and then

The way you look me in the eye.

      A dozen vegetarian mishaps

Eleven phone calls from the road.

Your cats, my girl, our girl

Our cats, these fish and now

Fruit trees and a sky both blue

      And city dark.  We live

Not in the cracks but in those

      Broad committed surfaces

      The walls of this house

The words we say and those

      We wish we could–

I love you now as never

      Before.  Open window, open door
