Keep Him Where Your Soul Can See

Our son and friend has taken leave
And left us all to sadly grieve.
As surely as the flower comes,
It blooms in splendor, then succumbs.
Too short the brillance of the rose
Why? we ask.  Just heaven knows.
He was not ours to keep it seems,
And thus we must resort to dreams
Of where he is, and trust that we
Will join him in eternity.
For since he's there, we'll want to be.
So keep him where your soul can see
The far horizon from which he
Will tend and feed our memories.
With loving arms we let him go,
And those of faith do surely know
He watches from a wondrous place
Our guardian angel, full of grace.

And life is eternal and love immortal, and
death is only a horizon, and a horizon is
nothing but the limit of our sight. --
